When Life Hands You Lemons, Make Art

Shame 9-17

I developed a love for photography in college, and enjoy a good photo odyssey every now and again. I will take a camera on a trip and wander for hours, happily snapping away, hoping to come out with one or two good shots. Capturing images is so magical, and so elusive.
I have always had this weird attachment to my big cameras... 35mm Film SLRs, like they are the only cameras deemed good enough to make art with. Its strange, but the weight and bulk of an SLR hanging from a strap seemed a necessary part of getting into the photographic creative zone........ the thing is, my cameras keep getting stolen, film is really expensive, and I don't have a darkroom, nor do I have a large amount of free time in which to go on photo taking journeys. I do, however, spend more time than I would like to admit sitting in front of this contraption that is always looking at me, so why not use it as a creative tool?
I was inspired by the way that the internet allows us to communicate, privately or publicly. There is an underlying desire for me to communicate with people that I don't communicate with normally, even though I make art daily that reaches people all over the world, I sometimes feel stifled by it, the business, the process, the money making... and I just want to have a voice again. I want to create just for the sake of communicating ideas and emotions. It helps me deal with the lemons that life hands me.
Pain 9-16

I started this project on my facebook page, and will continue until I feel like I have processed all of the ideas and emotions that are overflowing out of me right now. I thought I would share a few of my favorites from the first week, and maybe I will post a few more as this stream develops.
Though this project is on my private facebook page, you are welcome to become a fan on my public one!

An old school professional photographer in Bham has been doing a series of art photos taken with his iphone as he travels the South for work. This kind of reminds me of that. It seems far more creative when you have to stretch beyond the limits of your tools.
